Die Anzahl an Fliegern über einer Region ist ein guter Indikator für die wirtschaftliche Situation derselben. Auf der exzellenten Seite Flightradar24.com kann man dies in Echtzeit beobachten. Schaut man sich dann Ostafrika im Vergleich mit Europa an (gleich große Kartenausschnitte), merkt man, dass da ein gewaltiger Unterschied besteht.

Es gibt zwar durchaus große Fluglinien, die Ostafrika ansteuern, aber insgesamt ist das Angebot noch immer klein. Interessanterweise ist es auch billiger aus Europa nach Uganda und zurück zu fliegen als umgekehrt. Fragt mich nicht warum.

Diese Woche hatte ich das Vergnügen, in einer relativ kleinen Propellermaschine (37 Sitze) zu meinem „Borrow a TA“ Einsatz nach Lodwar zu fliegen. Darüber erzähle ich ein anderes Mal mehr. Jetzt teil ich mal nur ein paar Fotos aus dem Flieger (leider war das Fenster recht dreckig).

The number of planes over a certain region is a good indicator for the economic situation of this region. On the excellent Flightradar24.com you can look at this in real time. If one compares East Africa with Europe (same map size), you realize the gigantic difference.

There are some major airlines that go to East Africa, but overall the market is still rather small. Interestingly return flights from Europe to Uganda are cheaper than vice versa. Don’t ask me why.

This week I had the pleasure to fly in a relatively small propeller plane (37 seats) to my “Borrow a TA” assignment in Lodwar. I will write more about that another time. For now I will leave you with some pictures from the plane (unfortunately the window was a bit dirty).
