Im Rahmen des HORIZONT3000 Knowledge und Exchange Funds wurde meiner Partnerorganisation PACHEDO ein Besuch beim Youth Environment Service (YES) in Busia ermöglicht. Dort hatten wir die Gelegenheit neben einem Workshop zum Erfahrungsaustausch auch zahlreiche Field Visits zu machen: So besuchten wir eine Recycling-Firma, die kaputte Jerry Cans (Plastikkanister) aussortiert und nach Kampala verkauft, Frauengruppen, die aus alten Plastiksackerln und Strohhalmen Taschen, Hüte und Matten zaubern, Damen, die aus altem Aluminium neue Töpfe produzieren und eine Gruppe, die aus biologischen Abfällen Eco-Briketts herstellt. Ebenso hatten wir viel Spaß beim Ausprobieren der diversen Spiele zum Thema Water, Sanitation und Hygiene (WASH). YES wird seit mehreren Jahren von der Dreikönigsaktion unterstützt und hat mit Thomas Waclavicek einen Freund und ehemaligen Studienkollegen von HORIZONT3000 als Technical Advisor.
Für PACHEDO hat sich der Besuch sicher gelohnt: Neben dem gewonnenen Wissen war es auch eine gelunge Teambuilding-Aktion und Einiges wird sicher in unsere zukünftige WASH-Strategie einfließen.
In the context of the HORIZONT3000 Knowledge and Exchange Fund, it was possible for my partner organisation PACHEDO to visit the Youth Environment Service (YES) in Busia. There, we not only had the chance to exchange ideas and experiences in a workshop but also to participate in several field visits. We visited a recycling company which sorts out broken jerrycans and sells them to Kampala, groups of women manufacturing bags, hats and mats out of old plastic bags and straws, women producing new saucepans using old aluminum and a group making eco briquets from biological waste. We also enjoyed the various games on the topic of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) a lot. YES has been supported by the Dreikönigsaktion for several years and has its own Technical Advisor of HORIZONT3000, Thomas Waclavicek, a friend and former classmate of mine.
PACHEDO definitely profited from the visit: apart from the knowledge gained, it was also a succesful teambuilding and we will also incorporate the input in our WASH strategy.
