Zum Abschluss gibt es nochmals Fotos. Diesmal von meiner letzten Reise vor der Ausreise. Von Kampala ging es mit dem Bus (über zwei komplizierte Grenzübergänge) nach Goma in der Demokratischen Republik Kongo, vormals Zaire, heutzutage einfach DRC. Dort bestiegen wir den Nyiragongo, einen aktiven Vulkan in den Virungas. Am Kraterrand wird man dann mit der Aussicht auf den (zumindest zu gewissen Zeiten) größten Lavasee der Welt belohnt. Anschließend ging es noch nach Kigali, die Hauptstadt Ruandas. Schon die Fahrt durch das Land der tausend Hügel ist beeindruckend. Kigali ist ein ziemlich krasser Gegensatz zu Kampala: schöne, saubere Straßen; Bodas, die die Helmpflicht auch wirklich einhalten; Ampeln, Straßenbeleuchtung usw. Ein berührendes Erlebnis ist das Museum über den Genozid von 1994. Die Hintergründe und Folgen dieser humanitären Katastrophe werden hier eindrucksvoll beleuchtet.

Dann ging es für mich im Flieger zurück nach Kampala. Nach etwas Stress mit Einpacken und Check-In bin ich jetzt zurück in Wien. Die ausgiebige Reflexion über die letzten zwei Jahre kommt wohl noch auf mich zu, denke aber, das wird nicht hier im Blog passieren. Ich möchte an dieser Stelle mit einem großen Dank an alle LeserInnen schließen. Apwoyo matek!

EPILOGUE: DRC & RWANDA

To conclude, some final pictures. This time from my last trip before leaving Uganda. From Kampala we went by bus (crossing two complicated borders) to Goma in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, formerly Zaire, nowadays just DRC. There we hiked up Mount Nyiragongo, an active volcano located in the Virungas. Once you reach the crater rim, you are rewarded by a view of the (at least at certain times) biggest lava lake worldwide. Afterwards, I went to Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda. Already the drive through the land of thousand hills is stunning. Kigali is the complete opposite of Kampala: nice, clean roads; bodas that actually follow the mandatory helmet regulation; traffic lights, street lights, etc. A touching experience is the museum about the genocide of 1994. The history and consequences of this humanitarian disaster are presented in an impressive way.

After this, I flew back to Kampala. After some issues with packing and checking in, I am now back in Vienna. I am sure that I will be extensively reflecting about the last two years soon, but I think that I won’t do it using this blog.
