Für fast zwei Jahre wurden wir so von unseren Nachbarskindern gegrüßt. Am Sonntag hat es für mich dann gestimmt – ich fuhr von Gulu Richtung Flughafen, um die Heimreise nach Wien anzutreten.

Meine letzten Wochen in Gulu bzw. in Uganda waren genauso schön wie der Rest der Zeit. Durch unseren Ausflug nach Arua konnte ich eine Gegend kennenlernen, die ich davor noch nicht besucht hatte, und ganz neue Eindrücke gewinnen. In der letzten Woche gingen wir dann jeden Tag in ein anderes Restaurant zum letzten Mal und am Mittwoch (International Women’s Day – ein Feiertag in Uganda) fuhren Lutz und ich in die Chobe Lodge. Die Lodge befindet sich im Murchison Falls Nationalpark und kann um nur sehr wenig Eintritt für den Tag besucht werden. Auf dem Weg zur Lodge sahen wir noch einmal Kobs, verschiedene Affen, Geier sowie Giraffen und vom Pool aus bzw. beim Mittagessen beobachteten wir eine große Nilpferd-Familie, die sich im Nil abkühlte.

Schon während der Woche verabschiedete ich mich von vielen Leuten (u.a. PACHEDO, Frisbee und unserem Acholi-Lehrer Alfred), doch am Samstag hieß es dann wirklich Abschied nehmen. Bei Pizza und Eis traf ich noch einmal viele Freunde, die ich in Gulu gewonnen hatte, und wurde mit sehr lieben Worten und Abschiedsgeschenken bedacht. Ich hatte wirklich eine tolle Zeit in Gulu und möchte auf diesem Weg noch einmal allen, die meinen Aufenthalt so unvergesslich gemacht haben, danken: apwoyo matek!

For almost two years our neighbor’s children greeted us this way. On Sunday it was accurate in my case – I went from Gulu to the airport to travel back to Vienna.

My last weeks in Gulu and Uganda were as nice as the rest of my time there. Thanks to our trip to Arua I saw a region that I didn’t know before and received a completely new impression. During my last week, we went to a different restaurant for the last time every day and on Wednesday (International Women’s Day – a public holiday in Uganda) Lutz and I went to Chobe Lodge. The lodge is located in Murchison Falls National Park and can be visited for the day paying only a very small entrance fee. On our way to the lodge we saw kobs, different monkeys, vultures and giraffes, and from the pool as well as during lunch we observed a school of hippos that was chilling in the Nile.

Already during the week I said goodbye to many people (among others PACHEDO, Frisbee and our Acholi teacher Alfred), but on Saturday it got serious. Enjoying pizza and ice cream, I spent the evening with many of the friends I had met in Gulu, who shared some really nice words and gave me very cute leaving gifts. I had a great time in Gulu and want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who made my stay unforgettable: apwoyo matek!
