Uganda liegt in der Mitte des zentralafrikanischen Grabenbruchs: im Osten verläuft dieser an der kenianischen Grenze, im Westen an der Grenze zur Demokratischen Republik Kongo. Entlang dieser beiden Äste findet man neben Afrikas höchsten Bergen und Vulkanen auch seine tiefsten Seen. Rund um Fort Portal gibt es eine besonders hohe Konzentration an Kraterseen. Einen sind wir beim Triathlon durchschwommen, einen anderen haben wir am Vortag besucht. Lake Nyabikere um genau zu sein. Ein netter Ort zum Entspannen.
CRATER LAKES
Uganda lies in the middle of the Great African Rift Valley: in the East the rift runs along the Kenyan border, in the West along the border to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. On both branches one finds Africa’s highest mountains and volcanoes as well as its deepest lakes. Around Fort Portal there is a particular high concentration of crater lakes. One we traversed during the triathlon, another one we visited on the day before. Lake Nyabikere to be exact. A nice spot to relax.
