Ganz in der Nähe meines Büros findet man Gulus und überhaupt Nordugandas größtes Stadion. Pece Stadium ist nach dem zugehörigen Stadtteil benannt. Es wurde (als Abschiedsgeschenk?) von den Briten 1959 gebaut. Die Sitzplatzkapazität ist eher beschränkt, passen doch vielleicht 300 Leute auf die Tribüne. Baufällig ist es auch. Dennoch ist es laufend in Verwendung: Wahlkampf, Sport, Exerzierplatz, alle Arten von Feiern, Zirkus, Jahrmarkt oder einfach Rinderweide, alles ist hier möglich.
Die fehlenden Sitzplätze sind da kein großes Problem, gibt es doch genug Stehplätze rundherum oder man setzt sich einfach auf die teilweise noch vorhandene Mauer. Pläne zur Renovierung gibt es einige, die stecken aber noch in den Schubladen der Verantwortlichen. Geht ja eh (vielleicht das inoffizielle Motto Ugandas).
Very close to my office one finds Gulu’s and also Northern Uganda’s biggest stadium. Pece Stadium is named for the part of town it is located in. It was built (as a parting gift?) by the Brits in 1959. The seating capacity is rather small, maybe around 300 people. It is also in pretty bad shape. Still it is in constant use: election campaigns, sports, parade ground, all kinds of celebrations, circus, fair or just simply cattle pasture, everything is possible here.
The missing seats are not really a problem, there is enough standing room space all around or one simply sits on the remaining parts of the enclosing wall. Plans for renovation exist, but remain locked in the drawers of the responsible officials for now. Works anyway (maybe the unofficial slogan of Uganda).

Stadt Gulu, sie denken aber über eine Privatisierung nach.
UI, da könnte man echt viel daraus machen – schade – jedoch werden andere Dinge wichtiger sein – z.B. Infrastruktur etc… hoffe ich zumindest bzw. wäre logisch. Der Zaun erinnert mich an etwas ….. was war das nur ….. ? 😉
