Baseball

Auch in Gulu gibt es Baseball. Die NGO The Recreation Project hat 2012 mit dem Programm Waveland Academy begonnen Baseball in einigen Schulen zu spielen. Seit zwei Jahren gibt es eine offizielle Little League mit 8 Teams, heuer konnte Gulu bei den nationalen Meisterschaften im Mai den 4. Platz von 12 belegen. Die Saison geht eigentlich erst im dritten Trimester (ab September) wieder los, gestern konnte ich aber mit Coach Mike ein zusätzliches Training leiten. Fast 20 Kinder der Angelo Negri Primary School haben mitgemacht, darunter ein paar sehr gute Spieler, besonders die Arme waren für das Alter der Kinder schon sehr gut entwickelt. Im abschließenden Scrimmage waren auch einige schöne Schläge zu sehen. Sehr innovativ fand ich die Bases und Homeplate aus alten Reifen, durchaus auch eine Idee für Europa.

Also in Gulu there is baseball. The NGO The Recreation Project started the Waveland Academy program in 2012, introducing baseball to a couple of schools. Two years ago they established an official Little League with 8 teams; this year, Gulu managed to finish 4th out of 12 teams at the national championships in May. The season will actually only begin again in the third trimester (starting in September), but I was able to run an extra practice yesterday together with Coach Mike. About 20 kids of the Angelo Negri Primary School came, among them some very good players, and especially their arms were really well developed for their age. During the scrimmage at the end of practice we also saw some nice hits. I thought their bases and home plate made out of old tires were a very innovative idea which could also be used in Europe.
