Da ich ein paar Tage vor dem ugandischen Nationalteam in Kanada gelandet bin, nahm mich Ruth bei ihr zu Hause auf und zeigte mir die Stadt von ihren schönsten Seiten. Am Freitag fuhren wir nach Granville Island, einer Halbinsel, die für ihre Kunst und den öffentlichen Markt bekannt ist. Dort spazierten wir ein bisschen herum und ich besorgte gleich die ersten Souvenirs. Am Abend waren wir dann bei Freunden von ihr und ihrem Mann eingeladen, wo uns Lachs, die regionale Spezialität, serviert wurde. Am Samstag ging es dann zuerst zum Shopping in ein Einkaufszentrum und danach zu einem Straßenfest in einem angesagten Viertel der Stadt, Hundespaziergang am Strand inklusive. Und am Sonntag machten wir schließlich einen Radausflug entlang der Küste und durch den Stanley Park. Das Wetter war perfekt und ich muss sagen, bis jetzt hat mich Vancouver noch nicht enttäuscht. Eine wirklich schöne, saubere und freundliche Stadt!
Since I landed in Canada a few days before the Ugandan national team, Ruth took me in and showed my the city at its best. On Friday we drove to Granville Island, a peninsula famous for its art and public market. There, we took a stroll and I bought the first souvenirs. In the evening we were invited to a dinner by friends of Ruth and her husband where we ate some salmon, the regional specialty. On Saturday, we first went to a mall for some shopping and then a street festival in a hip neighborhood of the city, including a walk with the dog at the beach. Finally, on Sunday, we biked along the seawall and through Stanley Park. The weather was perfect and I have to say, so far Vancouver has not let me down. It really is a beautiful, clean and friendly city!
